Set on a dramatic Auckland cliffside, this modern family home is designed to make the most of its incredible surroundings. Step through the front door and you are instantly drawn through open-plan living spaces and the stunning kitchen, to a panoramic view out over the Waitematā Harbour—an ever-changing backdrop that anchors the entire design.

What was once a modest home for a growing family has been completely reimagined as their forever home, purpose-built for both everyday living and entertaining. The bold architectural vision behind the 1,200m² concrete structure called for precision, problem-solving, and an unwavering attention to detail, qualities that led the architects to introduce us to the clients.

This was no ordinary build. The project began with over a year of major excavation, cliff stabilisation, and complex piling and foundation work, necessary to support the scale and ambition of the design. Hidden beneath the home is over 340m² of beautifully finished underground space, including a wine cellar, bar, games room, cinema, and gym. Every corner was crafted to the highest standard.

Above ground, the layout flows effortlessly between indoor and outdoor living. Natural materials were chosen to bring warmth and depth to the home, reclaimed brick, natural stone, antiqued brass, and smoked oak compliment the hand-applied lime plaster walls that capture and reflect the changing light throughout the day, creating a timeless, textural finish.

Outside, a cantilevered swimming pool cantilevers boldly over the cliff’s edge, offering sweeping views of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. An outdoor kitchen and firepit make the space just as inviting at night as it is during the day.
For us, this project was more than just a build, it was a true collaboration with the architects, interior designer, and most importantly, the family who now calls it home. We’re proud of every detail, from the unseen structural complexity below the surface to the craftsmanship in every finishing above.
